About Us

 

Violet Mbiti Foundation is a social justice movement organization registered under the societies act founded by visionary women committed to working at the grassroots to strengthen citizens voice. Our work is centered around the thematic area of Governance, Gender, Health, and Climate Change that employs an advocacy strategy that ensures policies, laws and priority development initiatives are in favor of vulnerable and marginalized people.Violet Mbiti Foundation is also the convener of Machakos County Budget Champions who comprise Religious Institutions,Media,Individuals and Civil Society Organizations.

 As a result of Violet Mbiti Foundation budget advocacy work together with CSO partners in Machakos County, the County Government of Machakos  won the opportunity to join the 2024 Open Government Partnership (OGP) Local. The OGP Local is a program of the Open Government Partnership that supports local governments in collaborating with civil society to create more transparent, accountable, and inclusive governance. Violet Mbiti Foundation serves as monitoring body of OGP in Machakos County. H.E. Governor Wavinya Ndeti hosted the leadership of Mzalendo Trust in a productive engagement anchored on a shared commitment to the principles of the Open Government Partnership (OGP).In attendance,CECM for Devolution Hon. Annastacia Munyaka; Chief Officer for County Administration, Decentralised Units and Public Participation, Mercy Ndululu; Chief Officer for Youth and Sports, Bruce Isika; and representatives from Mzalendo Trust led by Executive Director Caroline Gaita. Also present were the Leader of Majority in the Machakos County Assembly, Hon. Nicholas Wangodi, civil society representatives including CSO Point of Contact Philip Mutooni, and Lead Monitoring Body representative Violet Mbiti.

We shared research findings on dwindling supply of Health Commodities at level 4 and 5 public health facilities to Budget and Appropriation Committee at the County Assembly of Machakos.Research Paper on Supply of Medical Drugs and Vaccines at Level 4 and 5 Public Health Facilities in Machakos County.

Our budget advocacy efforts together with CSO partners paid off when Machakos County Government  introduced a budget line in the health sector for level 2 and 3 public health facilities as outlined in the County Fiscal Strategy Paper 2026/27.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Violet Mbiti Foundation convened  a youth CSO engagement with the County Assembly Committee on Youth, Sports and Social Welfare to deliberate on issues affecting youth.The engagement resulted in the passage of the Machakos County Youth Empowerment Act 2024.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

​Violet Mbiti Foundation as a member of Nairobi Eastern and Central Budget Hub together with representatives of Regional Budget Hubs and Bajeti Hub attended a meeting convened by National Treasury's Public Debt Management Office led by Mr. Otieno, Director General for Public Debt Management. This was during the sectoral hearings that took place in November 2025.​

 

 

 

 

 

 

Violet Mbiti Foundation is a CSO partner of Bajeti Hub in Machakos County and a member of the Nairobi Eastern and Central Regional Budget Hub.The hub is part of a broader network of budget hubs across Kenya, established to promote budget advocacy, transparency and citizen engagement in public financial management (PFM).Violet Mbiti Foundation is also a member of Machakos Civil Society Network and Health NGOs Network (HENNET).​​                   ​​

We acknowledge the support of County Government of Machakos, County Assembly of Machakos, Bajeti Hub ,NEC Hub, Uraia Trust ,Machakos Civil Society Network and Machakos County Budget Champions Network who comprise Evangelical Alliance of Kenya, National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK),Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM),Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), media and individuals without whom we couldn't have amassed the impact we have had so far.
