Our Programs
At Violet Mbiti Foundation, our programs are designed to empower communities, strengthen local systems, and create sustainable solutions to social, economic, health, and environmental challenges. We work collaboratively with communities, government, civil society, and development partners to deliver evidence-based interventions that improve lives and build resilience.
Clean Cooking and Climate Action
We promote access to affordable, clean cooking technologies that improve health, reduce household energy costs, protect forests, and mitigate climate change. Through community awareness, entrepreneurship, and partnerships, we empower women and youth to participate in the clean energy value chain while advancing climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods.
Women and Youth Economic Empowerment
We equip women and young people with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities they need to achieve economic independence. Our initiatives include entrepreneurship development, financial literacy, vocational and green skills training, mentorship, market linkages, and support for community enterprises that create decent and sustainable livelihoods.
Primary Healthcare Strengthening
We work to improve access to quality primary healthcare by supporting community engagement, evidence-based advocacy, and stronger health systems. Our programs promote equitable health financing, improved service delivery, maternal and child health, and accountability in the planning and implementation of health services.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
Access to safe water and sanitation is fundamental to healthy communities. We support initiatives that improve access to clean water, promote sanitation and hygiene practices, and strengthen community participation in the planning, management, and sustainability of WASH services.
Governance, Social Accountability and Civic Participation
We empower citizens to actively participate in governance and public decision-making. Through budget advocacy, policy engagement, social accountability, and civic education, we strengthen transparency, accountability, and inclusive public participation to improve service delivery and ensure public resources respond to community priorities.
Community Capacity Strengthening
Strong communities drive sustainable development. We build the capacity of community-based organizations, women's groups, youth networks, and local leaders through training, mentorship, organizational development, leadership strengthening, and partnership building, enabling them to lead and sustain positive change.
Research, Policy and Advocacy
Evidence drives effective action. We conduct research, generate community evidence, and engage policymakers to influence policies, budgets, and programs that improve health, livelihoods, climate resilience, and social inclusion. Our advocacy ensures that the voices of communities inform decisions that affect their lives.
Our Approach
Across all our programs, we are guided by four principles:
-
Community-Led Solutions: Communities identify priorities and lead the implementation of sustainable interventions.
-
Partnership and Collaboration: We work with government, civil society, the private sector, and development partners to maximize collective impact.
-
Evidence-Based Action: Our programs are informed by research, data, and community feedback to deliver measurable results.
-
Equity and Inclusion: We prioritize women, youth, and marginalized populations, ensuring that development opportunities are accessible to all.
Together, these programs contribute to healthier communities, stronger livelihoods, accountable institutions, and a more equitable and climate-resilient future.
